About Martin Gelder I have been working in IT since 1983, studying Computer Studies at Sheffield Hallam University after originally qualifying as a mechanical engineer. I have worked in "interactive media" continuously since then, as a programmer, designer, project manager, studio manager and consultant. I managed Peter Gabriel's multimedia studio for several years, during which time we won the Cannes festival "Millia d'Or" prize and several other awards including two of the first "Interactive Baftas". I began working on world wide web sites in 1996 and after a period of self employment I was recruited to the UK government's communications consultancy - The Central Office of Information - as Head of Digital Media. Here my team also won a number of awards, including the Cannes Lions Digital Gold for the "Police: Could You?" campaign site. Since then I have moved away from managing large teams and external suppliers and have been taking a more hands-on approach to web work. Recently I have worked as web coordinator for the WorldSBK websites, and one of my other projects - www.RealClassic.co.uk - was the 5th most visited motorcycling website in the UK at the end of last year. I am also a published freelance writer and photographer, having had work printed by most of the major UK motorcycling magazines as well as the prestigious Motocourse international motorcycle racing annual.
